What is the Relational Blockchain?
The main role of a blockchain is to manage distributed data in a secure and consistent manner. Blockchain can mostly simply be understood as a database, particularly, as a secure decentralized database.
Most blockchain platforms nowadays use key-value data. This model requires application developers to implement details such as serialization and indexing, which can be a daunting and challenging for app developers.
Conversely, the relational model has been the gold standard for database management for the last 5 decades. Rooted in mathematics and logic, it is known to be able to model data of arbitrary complexity in a highly efficient way. ChromaWay’s foundational technology, Postchain builds on this standard by storing and managing the data in a relational database. Thus, we have created a framework for a relational blockchain.
Does our team require significant technical knowledge?
Enterprises participating in the Postchain Discovery Lab (PDL) should delegate both technical and business resources to participate in the effort. Technical representatives involved in database and application development can contribute significantly to the goals of the PDL. Previous experience with blockchain technologies is not required.
What is the location of the Postchain Discovery Lab?
To accommodate personnel availability, PDL face-to-face meetings and training is typically held on-site at a location designated by the enterprise. In cases where the clients prefer the sessions be held off-site, ChromaWay can arrange an appropriate venue.
Will my enterprise qualify for the Postchain Discovery Lab?
ChromaWay is looking to partner with enterprises with a commitment to rigorously explore how blockchain technologies can fundamentally change their business frame of references. Participants should view the lab, not as simply training and developing a PoC, but as the first step on a longer-term path. It is assumed that lab participants have a basic understanding of blockchain concepts. Finally, in order for the lab to be successful, executive business and technology sponsorship is a necessity.
What are the responsibilities of participants?
One of the key features of the PDL is to build a working prototype within an accelerated timeframe. This requires the enterprise to pre-identify 2-3 target areas, preferably where defined business processes already exist, for the blockchain prototype. The lab process also includes an evaluation step to select which candidate target is the best fit. The enterprise will be expected to assign a project lead who will work the ChromaWay team on the project schedule, logistics, and communications.
How many people can participate in the Postchain Discovery Lab?
Typically, PDL participants comprise a working team of 6-10 participants who receive training, work on business modeling, and review the project deliverables. Additional employees and other stakeholder might have more limited roles, but serve as important project resources.
